2020 Spring Birding In Ottawa

My wife has been birding for years. Her “skills” as she puts it are rusty but she could easily identify through sound and sight probably 75-100 birds. Every May, there is a day called May-Day, where birders around Canada get outside and identify as many birds as they can to help paint a migratory picture. Her record for most birds identified in one day is north of 220!

The pandemic this spring has thrust itself on all of us and there are only so many ways to deal with the restrictions and ample time. Turns out, the protected areas along the Ottawa River are home to a whole host of migratory birds. Below are a few samples of the feathered friends we stumbled upon.
